Primary School
Modern Australian primary schools often do not assign enough maths homework to give the necessary practice and problem solving that is vital for mastering mathematics. At the end of tutorials we will usually give younger students additional study material to take home with them to practice.
Lower Secondary
Depending on their schools, students in lower high school may not be assigned enough homework to help them learn their school mathematics and science lessons adequately. In these cases we're happy to provide additional homework. Students might also require additional practice questions for tests and exams which can be provided.
Upper Secondary
Typically, year 11 and 12 students will be given enough homework material with which to learn their subjects but we are happy to provide additional practice questions for tests and exams.
Resource Centre
The tutoring centre has a library of textbooks, notes, sample exam papers, worked solutions from textbooks, etc. that are utilised in tutorials.
Teaching Methods
Tutorial lessons are tailored to meet individual student's needs and consist of detailed explanations of key concepts, going through examples of typical questions on a line-by-line basis, and having students attempt a wide variety of questions and problems from a variety of sources. In particular, applying problem-solving to more challenging questions.
Views on Technology in Learning
Use of technology in tutorials is deliberately kept to a minimum so as to facilitate better kinetic learning. Research has shown that handwriting notes leads to better memory retention and understanding than taking notes via keyboard. For younger students in particular, use of a calculator is kept to a minimum to improve student's arithmetic abilities, which improves their intuition for numbers and numerical processes. This provides a firmer basis for arithmetic, which will thus provide a solid foundation for the learning of higher mathematics.
Please complete an online enrolment form on the enrolment page. If you need to discuss any details first please contact the tutor.
There is no contract for parents or students to sign. Students do not need to sign up for a term or a minimum number of tutorials. Parents must agree, however, to pay for no-show appointments or pay late cancellation fees. Students cancelling lessons on the scheduled tutorial day will be charged a late cancellation fee of $16.50.
We understand that sometimes circumstances may require you to cancel a scheduled tutorial. If you inform us at least a day in advance of the lesson cancellation, no fee will be applied. A replacement tutorial may be possible on another day or during the next school holidays.
However, for tutorials cancelled on the day of the scheduled session, a $16.50 late cancellation fee will be applied. We value our students' commitments and the time of our tutor, so this fee helps us maintain a well-organised schedule.
If you have any questions or need to reschedule a tutorial, please don't hesitate to contact us.
No, tuition is only available at the tutoring centre in Nedlands. The centre has a library of educational resources which are incorporated into lessons. The availability of these resources improves the breadth and depth of the lesson while providing meaningful and challenging questions and problems to facilitate more in-depth learning and practice for tests and exams.
